Cost & Insurance
What is the cost of therapy or counseling sessions?
The cost of therapy or counseling sessions at CMHC can vary depending on several factors, such as the therapist's level of experience, and whether you are using insurance or paying out-of-pocket. To help you understand our fee structure, here are some general guidelines:
• In-Network Insurance coverage: If your therapist is in-network with your insurance, you will typically pay copays, assuming you have met your deductibles. Typical copies are between $10-$40 per session. Be sure to verify your coverage, copayments, and deductibles with your insurance provider.
• Out-of-Network Insurance coverage: If your therapist is not in-network with your insurance, your out-of-pocket costs may be reduced, depending on your coverage type and if you have met your Out-of-Network deductible.
• Standard sessions paying out-of-pocket: Fees for standard therapy sessions, which usually last between 45-60 minutes, range from $120 to $170, based on the therapist's experience level.
• Sliding scale: Most CMHC therapists offer a limited number of sliding scale fee spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. Availability depends on the therapists who offer this option and if sliding scale spots are open.
• Affordable Counseling Program (ACP): With fees as low as $30 per session, ACP is an excellent option for clients who are uninsured, underinsured, or have unmet high deductibles. ACP clinicians are professionally trained pre-licensed clinicians under supervision by board-certified therapists and approved supervisors. They have gone through a rigorous CMHC interview process, just like other clinicians.
For specific information about the cost of therapy or counseling sessions at CMHC, please contact our office directly. Our administrative staff will gladly provide detailed information about fees and help you understand your financial options for therapy.
Do you accept insurance? If so, which providers are in-network?
Yes, CMHC accepts insurance, and we are committed to making our services accessible to clients with various insurance plans. All of our therapists are in-network with CareFirst/BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS). Additionally, our Fully Licensed Clinical (LCPC or LCWS) level therapists are in-network with Cigna/EverNorth and Johns Hopkins EHP.
To ensure that your insurance plan covers our services, we recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage, copayments, and deductibles that may apply. If you have any questions or need assistance with insurance-related matters, our administrative staff will be happy to help.
What if my insurance is different?
If your insurance is different from the ones we have in-network contracts with (CareFirst/Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna/EverNorth, and Johns Hopkins EHP), there may still be options for you. If your therapist is not in-network with your insurance, your out-of-pocket costs may be reduced, depending on your coverage type and whether you have met your Out-of-Network deductible.
In such cases, we can provide an itemized statement called a "superbill" after each session. If your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, you can submit the superbill(s) to your insurance company for possible partial reimbursement. Please discuss superbills with your therapist or coach for more information and guidance on this process.
Always check with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage, out-of-network benefits, and any requirements for submitting superbills for reimbursement.
What if I don’t have mental health insurance coverage or have a very high deductible?
If you do not have mental health insurance coverage or have a very high deductible, there are still options available to make therapy more accessible at CMHC:
1. Sliding scale: Most CMHC therapists offer a limited number of sliding scale fee spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. Availability depends on the therapists who offer this option and if sliding scale spots are open.
2. Affordable Counseling Program (ACP): With fees as low as $30 per session, ACP is an excellent option for clients who are uninsured, underinsured, or have unmet high deductibles. ACP clinicians are professionally trained pre-licensed therapists under the supervision of board-certified clinicians and approved supervisors. They have gone through a rigorous CMHC interview process, just like other clinicians.
We are committed to making mental health care accessible and affordable for our clients, regardless of their insurance status or financial situation. If you have any questions or concerns about the cost of therapy, please feel free to contact our office directly. Our administrative staff will be happy to help you explore your options and find a solution that works for you.
What is good faith estimate?
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

Your healthcare provider must provide the Good Faith Estimate within the following time frames:
If the service is scheduled at least three business days before the appointment date, no later than one business day after the date of scheduling;

If the service is scheduled at least 10 business days before the appointment date, no later than three business days after the date of scheduling; or

If the uninsured or self-pay patient requests a good faith estimate (without scheduling the service), no later than three business days after the date of the request. A new good faith estimate must be provided, within the specified timeframes if the patient reschedules the requested item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
To learn more and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059. Keep a copy of the Good Faith Estimate in a safe place or take pictures of it. You may need it if you are billed a higher amount.

Do you offer teletherapy or online counseling sessions?
Yes, CMHC offers teletherapy and online counseling sessions as a convenient and accessible option for clients who may not be able to attend in-person sessions or prefer the flexibility of virtual appointments. Our therapists are experienced in providing effective, secure, and confidential teletherapy sessions using a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform.
To schedule a teletherapy or online counseling session, simply follow the same process as scheduling an in-person appointment. You can indicate your preference for virtual sessions when completing the intake form or by contacting our office directly.
Whether you choose in-person or teletherapy sessions, our dedicated team of therapists is committed to providing high-quality mental health care tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Do you offer In-person counseling sessions?
Yes, CMHC offers in-person counseling sessions for clients who prefer a face-to-face therapeutic experience. While we recognize telehealth technology has greatly increased access to mental health care, especially for individuals who live in rural or underserved areas, have limited mobility, or face other barriers to in-person care. Even for folks living in the city or suburban, technology has made it easier for individuals to receive mental health care from the comfort of their own homes or any other location with an internet connection., we at CMHC believe in the value of in-person therapy sessions whenever possible.
In-person therapy offers several unique benefits that can be more challenging to achieve through telehealth or other remote forms of therapy, such as:

-
Greater connection and rapport: In-person sessions allow for better nonverbal communication and physical presence, fostering a stronger therapeutic relationship and sense of connection.
-
More comprehensive assessment: In-person therapy enables therapists to observe and assess clients in a more nuanced way, which is especially important for treating complex mental health concerns.
-
Access to physical resources: In-person sessions give clients immediate access to resources like our library, props, games, and art supplies to support the therapeutic process.
-
Reduced distractions: In-person sessions are typically free from distractions, making it easier for clients to stay focused and fully engage in therapy.
-
Increased accountability: In-person therapy can boost accountability for both clients and therapists, as clients are more likely to attend scheduled sessions and therapists are more likely to prioritize clients' well-being.
To schedule an in-person counseling session, follow the same process as scheduling any other appointment: complete the intake form or contact our office directly. You can indicate your preference for in-person sessions during this process. Our dedicated team of therapists is committed to providing high-quality mental health care tailored to your individual needs and goals, whether you choose in-person or teletherapy sessions.
I see you also offer outdoor sessions, can you tell me more about it?
Yes, CMHC is proud to offer outdoor therapy sessions, which combine the benefits of traditional therapy with the healing power of nature. Our outdoor therapy sessions, also known as Nature Informed Therapy or ecotherapy, provide an alternative to traditional in-person or teletherapy sessions.
Outdoor therapy sessions take place in natural settings such as parks, forests, or green spaces, allowing clients to engage with their environment while addressing their mental health concerns. Some of the benefits of outdoor therapy include:
-
Reduced stress and anxiety: Research has shown that spending time in nature can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being.
-
Enhanced mood: Exposure to natural sunlight and fresh air can boost serotonin levels, which is linked to improved mood and emotional regulation.
-
Increased focus and attention: Engaging with nature can help to restore attention and improve concentration, which can be beneficial during therapy sessions.
-
Mindfulness and grounding: The natural environment provides opportunities for mindfulness and grounding exercises, which can be especially helpful for clients struggling with anxiety, stress, or trauma.
-
Strengthened connection to nature: Outdoor therapy allows clients to develop a deeper connection with the natural world, which can promote a sense of belonging, resilience, and self-awareness.
To schedule an outdoor therapy session, complete the intake form or contact our office directly, indicating your preference for outdoor sessions. Our experienced therapists will work with you to create a personalized therapy plan that incorporates the therapeutic benefits of nature into your mental health journey.
